After reading this article, I have a deeper understanding of the situations that face the Canadian immigration department daily. People truly deserving of immigration are turned away because they can't afford the application fee. Although they may have a better life in Canada, they would be relying on government funds to survive. Their dependence on government hand-outs may be though of as unfair to tax-paying Canadian citizens. This article does not make me envy the position that Canadian immigration officers are in.
